Care home movement classes

Care home exercise classes are designed to help residents keep moving to help maintain and improve mobility, strength, coordination, and memory. Music for the classes is selected to help residents recognise songs and feel motivated to exercise. These classes are designed for all care homes, nursing homes and residential homes. Classes can also be adapted to fit retirement villages.
Classes are either 30 minutes or 1 hour long.
- 30-minute classes are fully movement based and will include the residents moving their arms and legs as much as they are able to, as well as using resistance bands to increase strength and pilates balls to work on fine motor skills to help them maintain their independence.
- 1-hour classes will include everything above for the duration of 45 minutes with 15 minutes at the end of the session being spent on coordination and memory games such as throwing bean bags, balloon badminton, etc. There is also the opportunity to include memory and thinking games such as guess the song and Alphabet word games.
As each care home is unique H M S Training offers each home a 30-minute free taster session to allow each home the chance to provide feedback on the first session. This allows me to adapt the session where needed ready for the first class as some care homes will need a slower or faster class and some will need more or less movement.

The video above is an example of an exercise class taking place at a care home. Resistance bands are incorporated in this class.

Care Home reviews
Care home 1 - "Holly is an experienced, engaging PT who consistently delivers excellent sessions. Her ability to develop relationships and rapports with clients adds to the positive atmosphere that she brings to the classes. All of us look forward to her fortnightly visits, which are filled with physical energy, ball games, and even brain teasers. We can’t recommend her enough!”
Care home 2 - "The residents love joining in with Hollys exercise classes and look forward to a class each week. The pace of the class is perfect for our residents as Holly always makes sure that it is not too easy nor too hard. The music used for the classes is always excellent as they are songs recognised by all. Overall we really enjoy Hollys classes, so much so even our staff join in and dance around."
Care home 3 - "The staff and residents have noticed a great improvement in the residents movement quality as well as their sociability, thank you to Holly and her very enjoyable exercise classes. Each week Holly comes to class with great energy and spends time speaking to the residents and gives them individual attention to get them to reach their own targets for exercise. It is a pleasure to have her visit our care home each week."
